What is a PSL rating?
PSL is a 0–8 rating scale used in looksmaxxing communities to describe facial attractiveness. A 4 is average. A 6 is rare. An 8 is theoretical.
The name has two competing explanations, and you will see both used. Most accounts trace it to three forums where the scale developed: PUAhate, SlutHate and Lookism. Other sites read it as an abbreviation of "Perceived Sexual Market Value". The forums came first, and the backronym appeared later.
Either way, PSL is community vocabulary rather than a scientific standard. No journal defines it and no study validates it. What it does have is a consistent, widely used set of tiers, which is what this page measures you against.
The PSL scale, tier by tier
The theoretical ceiling. Essentially nobody scores here.
Exceptional harmony. Roughly the top 3%.
Model-tier balance, consistently strong features.
High Tier Normie. Noticeably above average.
Mid Tier Normie. Where most people land.
Low Tier Normie. Below average facial harmony.
Severe asymmetry or highly atypical proportions.
The scale is deliberately harsh. Someone most people would call an 8 out of 10 in everyday conversation usually sits around 5.5 to 6 on PSL.
How this calculator works
Most PSL tools ask an AI model what it thinks of your face. That is a guess dressed up as a number. This one measures instead.
When you upload a photo, 478 facial landmarks are detected in your browser. Four measurements are then taken from the geometry between them:
- Symmetry. Four mirrored pairs — outer eye corners, mouth corners, cheekbones, brows — compared against your facial midline. The result is the average deviation as a percentage of face width.
- Facial thirds. Forehead to brow, brow to nose base, nose base to chin. A balanced face splits close to 33% each.
- Eye spacing. Pupil-to-pupil distance against total face width. The reference figure is 0.46.
- Face shape. Jaw, cheekbone and forehead widths against face height, classified into six shapes.
Those four are weighted into a single score and mapped onto the PSL curve. Nothing is sent anywhere. Your photo stays on your device, and the calculation costs us nothing to run, which is why it is free with no sign-up and no limit.
Why your score changes between photos
This catches almost everyone out, so it is worth understanding.
Turn your head 20 degrees and the far side of your face is compressed by the camera. Any tool measuring symmetry will read that compression as facial asymmetry. On our own tests, the same face scored 6.5 square-on and would have scored 3.9 turned — a difference of nearly three full points, caused entirely by the angle.
Tilt is a different problem with a better answer. A tilted head is just a rotation, so we rotate the landmarks back to level before measuring. A photo tilted 8 degrees scores the same as the level version.
A turned head cannot be corrected, because the hidden half is genuinely missing. So rather than inventing a symmetry figure, we mark symmetry and face shape as not scored, build your result from the measurements that are still valid, and tell you what was left out. Most tools do not tell you.
Frequently asked questions
Is the PSL scale out of 8 or out of 10?
Out of 8. This is the most common point of confusion, because everyday attractiveness ratings use 1–10. PSL tops out at 8, and the top of the range is treated as theoretical rather than achievable. A 6 on PSL is far rarer than an 8 out of 10.
How do I calculate my PSL score?

What is the highest PSL score you can get?
8, in theory. In practice the True Adam and True Eve tier above 7.75 is treated as a concept rather than something real faces reach. Chad and Stacy territory starts at 6.5, and that alone is roughly the top 3%.
What PSL rating am I?
Most people are MTN or MTB — Mid Tier Normie — somewhere between 3.5 and 5. That band holds close to half the population. If you score 5 or above you are already in the top third.
Is 6.5 attractive?
On PSL, 6.5 is the bottom of the Chad and Stacy tier and sits around the 95th percentile. Note that 6.5 on PSL is not the same as 6.5 out of 10. On a casual 1–10 scale, a PSL 6.5 face is usually read as an 8 or 9.
Is there a free app that rates my PSL?
This page is free with no account, no credits and no upload limit, because the measurement runs on your device rather than on a server we pay for. Most alternatives either charge per result or cap how many scans you get.
Why is my symmetry score lower than I expected?
Usually the photo, not the face. Phone selfies are taken close up, which distorts proportions, and a slight head turn reads as asymmetry. Real deviation for most people sits between 1% and 4%. Try a photo taken from a metre away with your face square to the camera.
Can I improve my PSL rating?
Partly. Bone structure is fixed without surgery, and symmetry is largely set. Body fat, skin, grooming, hair and posture all shift how a face reads, and those are the levers people actually move. Be sceptical of anything promising two points of improvement from an exercise.
Do you store my photo?
No. The landmark detection runs inside your browser. Your photo is never uploaded, never transmitted and never saved. Close the tab and nothing remains.
Is this the same as an attractiveness score?
No. This measures facial geometry only. Attraction in real life includes expression, voice, grooming, style and how someone carries themselves — none of which a single photo captures. A measured number tells you about proportions, not about how people respond to you.
